How to Become Involved in Therapeutic Riding

Become a Volunteer“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”
– Winston Churchill

Are you inspired to experience the magic of the horse/human connection firsthand?

We depend on a team of volunteers to keep our program running smoothly. The work may be hard and you will definitely get your hands dirty (your boots too) but the rewards will be amazing!

We welcome volunteers 14 years and older.

Please print out and bring the following completed forms on your first visit with us:

Volunteer positions may include:
  • Groom – Cleaning, brushing and preparing the horse before a session and caring for the horse after, sometimes with the help of the rider.
  • Sidewalker – walk along side the horse to ensure the safety of the person riding.
  • Session Support – assist with setting up games, assisting at the gate, cleaning up in the arena, etc.
Weekly Schedule

We offer therapeutic riding lessons on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. and Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. – noon.

Volunteers arrive at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday and 8:15 a.m. on Friday to groom and tack the horses and set up the arena for program.

We ask that you commit to a consistent 1-4 hour time slot each week for at least the duration of one 6-week session.

Please make sure that you wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots to work around the horses. It is also advisable to bring drinking water as there is no potable water at the ranch.

Volunteers are also needed in the following areas:
  • Administration – Board of Directors
  • Community Relations
  • Fundraising and Events
  • Grant Writing
  • Physical Therapist
  • Occupational Therapist
